Dear Reader,
This week, Scroll had not one, but two reasons to celebrate.
On Saturday, our reporter Rokibuz Zaman won the Human Rights and Religious Freedom Young Journalist Award 2025, conferred by the Indian American Muslim Council in Washington, DC.
The organisers praised Rokibuz’s “fearless and impactful” reporting from the North East, which they said had revealed “some of the most harrowing and underreported stories of our times”.
His work, they added, “has consistently exposed the human cost of arbitrary citizenship tribunals and forced expulsions, giving voice to those pushed to the brink of statelessness”.
Just a few days earlier, our reporter Vaishnavi Rathore won the 2025 Covering Climate Now Journalism Award in the business and economics category, recognising her “original and illuminating” work on the intersection of climate change and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities.
These awards reaffirm why independent newsrooms like Scroll matter — because they expose critical issues where others may turn a blind eye.
But here’s the truth: independent, award-winning journalism is resource-intensive, and we can only continue doing it with your support. If you believe in journalism that holds power to account, please consider becoming a Scroll member today.
Thank you for helping us make a difference.
Regards,
Team Scroll
