Dear Reader,
On Monday, we published a compelling new video: “A Mistake and a Cover-Up: Why the BSF Called the Family of a Worker from West Bengal”. It tells the harrowing story of Amir Sk, a 19-year-old from Malda who disappeared from Rajasthan and resurfaced a month later in a video from Bangladesh, alleging that India’s Border Security Force had pushed him across the border.
As his family sought justice in court, they say they received calls from individuals claiming to be BSF officers, pressuring them to “take him back quietly” – an alleged cover-up before the case could be heard. Amir’s story exemplifies the “unlawful” and discriminatory expulsion of Bengali Muslims to Bangladesh without due process, under the pretext that they are “illegal immigrants”.
At Scroll, we believe journalism should give you the full picture – not just breaking headlines, but the context and complexity behind them. That’s why we have been expanding our storytelling through video, bringing the same rigour and integrity you expect from our written reportage to a dynamic visual format.
Our video team works hard to produce deeply reported stories, along with explainers that unpack complicated issues and interviews that amplify voices often left out of mainstream discourse.
But none of this is possible without reader support. If you value independent journalism and believe in its power to drive change, please become a Scroll Member today. Every contribution helps us continue this essential work.
Warm regards,
Team Scroll
